Little Mommy Blessings

I was pleasantly surprised the other morning to wake up to a busy busy little HIT (homemaker in training), Brianna, who had quietly gotten up before me, had pulled the laundry out of the dryer and was folding it. She had tidied up the livingroom, put toys away, and she was sooo cheerful! (hmm she must have read my post about the morning olympics) I was so surprised, that all I could do was hug and kiss her! She is going to be a wonderful wife and mother Lord willing.

The motive behind it, I believe, stemmed from a new little idea I have....I bought the girls some plain little aprons to cover their dresses and promised them that with each new task they learn, I will sew a frill on it. Well, we started to attend a sewing class for moms and daughters at church, and the girls wear their little aprons to class. So, I sewed on a ruffle after their first class..as you can see in the picture. I also have buttons and ric-rac and some other ideas as incentive for them to learn homemaking skills. So, each sewing class, they get to wear an apron that grows more and more beautiful...like their skills! Going a little over-board, I thought about having t-shirts made for them with the caption "I'm a HIT with my Mom!" I would love for my girls to see homemaking in the true beautiful light that it is: it is a beauty and blessing to keep the home. And, I feel blessed to be the one to teach them, as I had never in the past been a very good homemaker...I am learning too!

I feel like I am enjoying this too much ;) I don't know what in the world to do with Ayden!!

Heather...what a great idea! I am so glad you're teaching your children the joy of homemaking...we need more young mothers who care about striving towards the Proverbs principles! Love...Karen

Heather, I enjoyed this post so much. I love the apron, by the way. It is wonderful having daughters. A couple of Sundays ago, as with every Sunday here, it was total chaos. I had ironed Harrison's shirt and was half way through straightening my hair when he came to tell me that a button was missing. My 11 year old Hannah said, "Give it to me and I'll sew you on another one." And sew him on a button she did. It was a blessing that she could do it but more of a blessing that she was willing to take the time to do it. Raising little homemakers is our responsibility. And I think your shirt idea is a good one. That would be cute. If you do that, please post a picture for us to see. :)

What a great idea. I am glad to hear you are raising "homemakers". I have to say, having boys, being raised in a christian home, with (I think) proper roles as men and women, I often worry that my boys may not find a women who finds joy in being who God created her to be. What a blessing to hear of mothers out there that have HIT's. You are a great mother, the apron idea is absolutely great, if I had a girl I'd have to copy you. If you happen to hear any ideas about boys, let me know. Again, what a blessing your girls have to have you as their mother. Have a wonderful weekend.
Love....Melissa

I love the apron and the Homemaker in Training idea!

By the way, we are a Marine Corps family, too! We've had friends in Okinawa before. It's a small world.
I've enjoyed visiting your blog.
